About Fran
Frances Sollors trained at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts. But if you ask, she’ll tell you how she’s been inspired by so much more. Like that very first bakingclass at age 11. That hand-me-down fishing tackle box of cake decorating supplies. When any one of her Home Economics students would see the art in baking. How that teacher when she was 11 became her champion and mentor. And how her mom showed her every day that home cooking is about more than food.
Her Story
Some years ago, when Frances was considering a career change, her husband asked her a simple question: “If you could do anything all day, what would it be?” Her answer was quick and equally simple: “Bake”. In that moment, something changed – a sense of possibility sent Frances down a new path. She imagined a cafe akin to inviting neighbours to her kitchen table. She opened Bon Ami Bakery and Cafe in North Vancouver in 2014. Fran operated the bakery and cafe for several years before moving to her new home on Vancouver Island, where she has the perfect balance of teaching in her local school district and running a smaller version of her business at home where she specializes in cookies, cakes and decorating classes.
